Why We Don't Take a Cut of Your Transactions

It's a strange thing to explain to investors: we built a fintech infrastructure company and chose not to take a percentage of the money flowing through it.
The logic behind percentage-based pricing is simple for the provider: revenue grows automatically as the merchant grows. It's also, from where we sit, a slightly misaligned incentive. The provider benefits from volume regardless of whether the merchant's margins actually improve.
We wanted our revenue to come from making the product better, not from your growth alone.
A one-time license fee forces a different discipline on us. If we want recurring revenue, we have to earn it, through upgrades, new modules, and support that people are actually willing to pay for again.
